Tendo Ryu keiko (practice) is held at the Tsurumi Secondary School dojo every Sunday afternoon from 3.00pm until 6.00pm and Wednesday nights at Nitta Junior High School from 7.00pm until 9.00pm. Students are expected to arrive before keiko in order to ensure that the floor of the dojo has been swept, and to be dressed for training upon the arrival of the instructor. It is important to note that Tendo Ryu utilises the sempai-kohai relationship during training, with the kohai (junior) student having to initiate training with the sempai (senior). This is the traditional method employed by Tendo Ryu and most koryu and it allows for both practitioners to test themselves during a kata, with the kohai always trying to elevate his or her technique, and the sempai pressuring the kohai in order to make kata as alive as possible.

Those interested in seeing a practice session are asked to arrange and appointment with Mabuchi Seiko-sensei via the 'contact' button at the top right of this page. At the end of the session, if the applicant seems sincere in his/her interest in learning Tendo Ryu, an offer to join the dojo will be extended. At this time, a naginata and sword set will need to be purchased. Training wear for dojo is a black or dark blue hakama (pleated bottoms) and white uwagi (top) which Mabuchi-sensei will help you purchase.

Our dojo is a member of the Shingetsukai, the Osaka-based organising body of Tendo Ryu.

Monthly dues: ¥3000 to be paid the first practice session of the month.
